Entertainment
The experience of a fine wine is heightened when paired with superior music. To that end, the Virginia Wine Festival features, for your enjoyment, these stellar artists: |

Over the Rhine overtherhine.com After more than 15 years making music, it’s obvious Ohio duo Over The Rhine is in it for the long haul, and for keeps. Over The Rhine began in 1990 as a more conventional four-piece rock band, albeit one far more in tune with the nuances of songcraft than its three-chord, grunge-era contemporaries. Over The Rhine may not be a household name, but to call the act’s followers “fanatical” would understate the point, and they’re not shy about converting the curious. Why? For starters, there’s Bergquist’s torchy, devil-may-care voice, brimming with Midwestern soul, unafraid to lay bare every emotional resonance. Not to mention, their evocative, earty songwriting and impassioned delivery. Go deep? That’s the only place Over The Rhine has ever gone.

Robert Jospe with John D'earth & Royce Campbell robertjospe.com Drummer Robert Jospé, known for his inventive use of rhythmic styles leads an all star band with trumpeter John D'earth, guitarist Royce Campbell and bassist Randall Pharr. Known individually for their many national and international performances and recordings, this sizzling quartet plays a wide variety of funk, latin and swinging instrumental jazz hits and classics. |
John Jorgenson johnjorgenson.com The John Jorgenson Quintet features guitarist John Jorgenson, a founding member of the Desert Rose Band, the Hellecasters, and six-year member of Elton John's band. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson's guitar work. At a John Jorgenson Quintet performance, audiences are amazed by John's dazzling guitar work as well as his mastery as a clarinet player and vocalist. Whether playing his own accessible compositions or classic standards, John and his band make music that is equally romantic and ecstatic, played with virtuosity and soul. |

The Woodshedders thewoodshedders.com The Woodshedders are an original spark on the American soundscape. This talented bunch has mined its musical coal and renders to us a slew of new songs and sounds inspired by the old-times. With a fiery fiddle, gypsy guitar, rambling bass, pouncing drums, and songbird harmonies (and a host of awesome guests) the band veers from hard-swinging Django-esque romps to hot country jump blues; old-timey waltzes to misty mountain ballads. The delivery is spontaneous and genuine, and irreverently harrows the boundaries of contemporary roots music. Their debut album Catch That Yardbird graces the SoundStage! Top Ten List, and was honored Roots Album of the Year by JustPlainFolks in 2009, the world’s largest independent music awards.

Juggle This! jugglethis.com This odd and hilarious duo combine a bizarre mix of stand up comedy, juggling, sideshow antics, and "other various skills and proficiencies," into one extremely popular and unforgettable show.
Their show entitled JUGGLE THIS! has a classical vaudevillian style, coupled with the sarcastic temperament of modern stand up comedians. Snappy comedic dialog, quick-witted improvisation, audience participation, amazing technical skill not to mention excitement and danger, sets the pulse of the show. Fly by Night's high-energy performances and quirky sense of humor have been witnessed internationally by hundreds of thousands of people. An outrageously good time awaits you! |
